Endorsements - God Moments: 101 little lessons for life’s journey

In the maelstrom that is modern living, we too rarely take opportunities to pause and reflect. As a result, we regularly fail to hear or notice the still small voice of God speaking through events in our daily lives. Jo-Anne Berthelsen adopts an alternative posture. In this book she invites the reader to slow down, look, notice and reflect. Drawing upon vignettes from her own experiences, she offers us ‘little lessons for life’s journey’. Here are simple, applicable lessons, distilled by prayerful reflection on diverse, often overlooked daily events. They are lessons to encourage, support and grow those who take a few moments to pause, be still and listen for the God of all grace. One of the charms of the book is that it models for the reader a way of reflecting on the mundane so that God’s voice is more clear and his lessons able to be internalised. The volume helpfully categorises the ‘lessons’ under ten themes, while thoughtful headings for each reflection themselves invite curiosity about what is to follow. As Jo-Anne comments, ‘In all these situations, we need to have our ears attuned to that still, small voice of the Spirit …’ This little work can assist you to do just that! Work through it sequentially or dip into randomly: either way it will reward you.
Revd Dr Viv Grice, Baptist pastor, professional supervisor (pastoral)

Jo-Anne Berthelsen has a gift of noticing the little things that most of us miss. In this book of short reflections, she makes connections between seemingly insignificant, everyday happenings and the sort of practical wisdom that reflects God’s character. Read this a little at a time and be inspired to pay attention to the lessons that come through the details of life.
Dr Rick Lewis, mentor, trainer, church consultant, author of Mentoring Matters anamcaraconsulting.com.au

Jo-Anne writes with a depth of honesty, displaying true empathy. Her practical wisdom, insight and godly perspective always serve to encourage me. She takes simple, everyday encounters and experiences and transforms them into lessons of grace.
Michelle Dona, English tutor

I first met Jo-Anne when she spoke at our church’s Ladies’ Fellowship and her words went straight to my writer’s heart. Discovering her blogs was like meeting with her regularly, receiving the encouragement, wisdom and humour she so generously shares. Her reflections conduct us through her life and ours as we journey together in the light of God’s love and demonstrate how He is always there, in life's big picture and minutiae. They remind us of His goodness and lift our hearts and souls.
Dr Jeanie Wood, teacher and author of The Travel Club novels, Finding Joy and The Heart Has Many Rooms

Often, the life we see before us is so ordinary. Jo-Anne captures so beautifully a second glance through the lens of our God, the Creator. Inspiring!
Lyndon Rumsey, pastor

If you want to see God in your everyday life, then this is the book for you. In short stories from her own life, Jo-Anne takes the exploits and conversations with her grandchildren, her unexpected encounters with strangers, the mundane activities of cooking, gardening and just about everything else in her life to show us God’s character and the way He speaks in the ordinary and extraordinary events she experiences every day. She combines her deep knowledge of the Bible with the everyday aspects of life and encourages us to experience God in our own lives too.
Marjan Beer, pastor (retired), mentor

This beautifully authored collection of life-giving stories highlights the powerful influence of pondering on the ‘God-incidents’ in our day-to-day lives. Jo-Anne writes with gentle transparency, and reading her book is like delving into a treasure chest, with each story unveiling another gem from the depths of her soul. As I read, my heart resonated with joy as her contemplative words ministered deeply, drawing me into a place of meaningful insight and reflection on similar stories in my own life. Jo-Anne’s ultimate desire is that ‘we would learn to value our close connection with God so much more and truly cherish his loving intimate presence each day’.
